Unseen Forces

I was sitting in the car on the way to work this morning thinking that somehow the sun looked different this morning, more round or something similar. It settled in mind throughout the day, so I am writing this tonight to make some sense of it all. We live our lives working, eating, sleeping, and just plain being. There are scant few times we stop and think of things beyond us.

What is it that keeps our little world revolving around whatever it revolves around? What is it that makes us question everything? Or am I just asking the questions over and over hoping to find the answers which agree with me? This body is not fit for sports. My mind is one of my strongest attributes. It works better when free of distractions, like tonight. Tomorrow morning I'll get up early and try to go to the zoo. Last time I was there it was too hot to see the big cats. They live caged for however long their lives are destined to be. Do their lives reflect society?

At least we get to vote for our zookeepers............

But what are our cages? Our houses? Our jobs? Our economic situations? Our marriage or relationships? Or are they layers of cages?

It would be easy to say that there are layers of cages in our lives, but really the only cages we have to contend with are the cages we put around ourselves. We use these cages to limit ourselves, to protect ourselves. You can argue that these cages are the fault of society. That we ingrain in our children that they need these crutches of marriage, jobs, responsibility. I would say that we shouldn't always be irresponsible, but to slave your life away for society is wrong in my opinion. These cages we put ourselves in limit the potential we have as human beings. They dampen our creativity and freedom.
This is seen in the old society of Western Europe, and to some extents India. There were written/unwritten caste systems that limited what you could do as citizens of wherever you lived. To some extent Communism is similar with equal pay for unequal jobs. I will not say Capitolism is the ideal, but it is closer to a free society.

Enough political talk though, for the topic is cages. We as a society must always choose our own path, whether that involves what we see as caged life or the true freedom in the world. You could argue that choosing to be free of all cages is a cage in and of itself. It can be somewhat safer in a cage, but at least I can leave my door unlocked so I can venture out every now and then.
