Standing Still

there is something
to be said
for standing still.

you can feel the wind
as it blows around you
as if you were a monolith
a piece of history.

you can try to slow down
the beating of your heart
as if you could protect it
from getting hurt

you can try to stop time
so that those you love don't age
as if you could keep them
always alive.

standing still
never works out well
it just gets you left behind.

lost in history,
brokenhearted,
always alive,
always alone.

This is the point where you would expect me to talk about hope, about what I do to not be alone. You would be in the wrong place. We are alone, most of us just don't realize it. If we slow down enough we can see it. We have our faith, our beliefs to comfort us, saying there is someone or something watching out for us. Maybe he/she is who I need right now.

You might not know it
but I'm right here,
quietly taking up my own space.

I was alone
and still are it seems,
going slow in this life.

Am I lonely,
contemplating life and love,
writing these words down?

No, there is something
keeping me bright,
keeping me focused
on what love means.

You are in my thoughts
and in my dreams tonight,
angel.

Thank you xoxo
